The Youth Team work with young people from the age of 11 to 19 and sometimes up to 25 for those who have greater learning needs. They act as mentors and work mostly on a one to one basis. This includes an assessment based on the Connexions APIR or Easykit and covers all aspects of a young person’s life. From this point the young person will meet their mentor as often as is necessary in order to make progress in which ever areas they have identified together.
The team consists of a Youth Team Leader and two Young Persons Mentors. Young people are allocated a mentor based on their particular needs as the team have a wide degree of experience between them. As well as their one to one sessions they will also be encouraged to participate in group activities from sports to multi media sessions. Via strong partnership working young people from St Matthews have a wide range of opportunities to participate in activities they may not normally access.
Our twice weekly Skills For Life sessions are aimed at engaging young people in the NEET category (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) provides an opportunity to achieve an accredited award via the Getting Connected Framework.
